Five essential products for your Trip
5 Essentials Items for your Trip :
Hello, I am the author of this blog about Bangkok. I am travelling quite a lot. Here are some products I am using and that I recommend :
I recommend this type of Hidden Pocket. You hang it vertically on your belt (yes, you need a belt) and inside your trousers. Nobody sees it and it is very comfortable because one side is made with a soft tissue. There are 2 strong loops, so it is very safe. I have two of these because sometimes I travel for a long period and it gets thick, so I divide the cash and put one pocket on each side. You can buy this Hidden pocket on Amazon.
Important in a trip, especially if you move between many countries. You never know what type of socket you will encounter at the Hotel or Airport.
Keep in mind that the universal plug adapter doesn’t convert voltages so make sure your electronics devices are adapted to 220 volts and also 110 volts (nowadays, they do).
I also carry a socket multiplier, in case there are not enough sockets in the place I stay.
You can buy this Universal plug adaptor on Amazon.
Even if you stay at top hotels, you should have one of these towels that dries very quickly and almost don’t weight and are not voluminous.
It should also have a small loop to hang it in the bathroom.
You can buy this Microfiber lightweight Towel on Amazon.
You need one or two for your suitcase and maybe your backpack. You may need a padlock for the case you will choose to leave your bag for storage (in a hotel) or if you choose to go to the gym, swimming-pool etc.
You can buy this Combination Lock on Amazon.
Sleeping during a trip will never be like sleeping at home. Some hotels will be noisy because of street noise or internal sources like an air-condition.
Practice at home how to insert them correctly, before the trip.
You can buy these Earplugs on Amazon.
More Useful Products for your Trip :
- Mosquito net in form of a tent: The best solution if you can afford to carry it with you. There is no need to hang it over the bed. It is foldable, weighs about 2 pounds (1 kilo) and it enters a normal suitcase (but probably not a backpack). See this product on Amazon.
- Mosquito net to hang: Much more compact than the mosquito tent, but you have to hang it somewhere and it’s not always easy to find hanging points in a hotel room. See this product on Amazon.
- Spray on skin – Not very pleasant in my opinion, but it is probably better than being bitten by mosquitoes – See this product on Amazon.
- Bracelet repellent – See this product on Amazon.
- Ultrasonic Deterrent – See this product on Amazon.
You may think that you don’t need one because you already have this function in your Smartphone. Well, you are lucky, you are a very relaxed person. When I’m travelling and I have to wake up at night for a flight, I cannot trust my smartphone because something may go wrong with the configuration and I will miss the flight. I carry with me 2 small analog alarm clocks. I use these specific Casio watches because they are compact, reliable and they don’t make noise like some others I have tried (Tic, Tac…)
You can buy this Travel Alarm Clock on Amazon.
Getting information from the internet is fine, but I usually prefer to have with me also a Lonely Planet guide (in form of a book). These guides describe in a user friendly way the points of interest and how to get there. There is usually also some history to read, so it keeps you busy during the coffee breaks.
You can buy a Lonely Planet guide on Amazon
You should definitely have a pair of good earphones during a trip. I have spent hours listening and testing different headphones in shops called FNAC in Europe and I was always surprised how these simple earphones sound much better than many other expensive, big headphones. I’m talking about the Sennheiser MX 365 Earphones. I personally prefer earphones that are not inserted deep into the ear (but I use the cushions, it’s important in order to make them stay in place, I’m replacing the cushions all the time).
This is not an ordinary cap. The visor is soft and so all the cap can be folded and inserted into the pocket of the jeans. This is very convenient during a trip because you don’t always carry a bag with you. These caps are also very cool, they are reversible, so you have 2 designs.
You can buy this Reversible Cap on Amazon.
During a Trip, you will use your Smartphone extensively. There will be times when you will be on long flights (or bus or train) and your battery will empty. One possible solution is to carry an external battery and then you have extra power when you need it. From my experience, it is very important that this external battery will be lightweight. The weight is more important to me than its capacity because I usually need to recharge just one more time before reaching a real plug.
You can buy this External Battery on Amazon.
I don’t carry a real sleeping bag with me when I travel but I do carry this type of light sheet for any case. It is useful for cases when you travel on trains or you are in cheap hotels and you are not sure about the cleanness of the blankets, so you can protect yourself with this personal sleeping bag liner. It is very light and not volominous so there’s no problem to put it in the suitcase. From my experience, I prefer a sleeping bag in rectangular form and not the “mummy” ones.
You can buy this Sleeping Bag Liner on Amazon.
You can buy this Hanging Toiletry Bag on Amazon.
You will have a lot of small items in your suitcase, like electric cables, socks etc.
One option is to put them in whatever you have at home (plastic bags), but a better solution is to organize them in these compact bags.
You can buy this Luggage Organizers on Amazon.
I usually don’t carry with me this item because it takes place in the suitcase, but it is a very popular product and I saw tourists carrying it hanged outside their backpack. If you do have one, don’t forget to ask the window side, on the flight. Take note also of the pillow in J form.
